Alzheimer’s Awareness Month

The Power of Music Therapy for Alzheimer’s at Allerton House Hingham

Did you know that June is Alzheimer’s Awareness Month? One of the reasons we love working with this population is that the part of the brain that processes music is still able to recognize songs that they know and love, bringing a lot of happiness not only to them, but their loved ones! And one of our favorite community partners that we partner with on Memory Care initiatives is the Allerton House Hingham through Welch Senior Living.

By using music therapy, our clients can feel like themselves for a longer period of time and for some, it can be the highlight of their week. Making them feel valued and connected is our ultimate goal.

One of our contacts at the Allerton House told us:

“Each scheduled week Sara joins our community to bring everyone together. She is beyond anything that we have available for our community. Her music ability and her individual connection to each of our residents is a joy to witness. She is gentle and inclusive, and they trust her.”

We love hearing feedback like this, and want to spread the magic of music therapy to as many places as we can.

While we could go on all day about how amazing it is, it helps to see firsthand the work we’re doing. Here’s a video we took during one of our Allerton House days:

If you have a loved one in memory care or assisted living that you think would love a little more music in their lives, we may be able to help!
